In a reply to my parliamentary question on Tuesday of
this week the
Minister for Justice has informed me that no progress
has been made in providing the urgently needed new Garda
Station for Wexford Town.
This sorry saga has been ongoing for years. Three
successive Ministers' for Justice have promised urgent
action. However all that has been achieved to date is
the purchasing of a less than ideal site on the
Rosslare Road. The overcrowded unsuitable premises in
Roche's Road
continues in operation; providing a totally
unacceptable working
environment for members of An Garda Siochana, and a
very poor facility for members of the public. The
situation can no longer be tolerated.
I am now informed that further remedial works are
planned for the Roches Road Station. It would appear
that the replacement of this station is no longer a
priority for the Department of Justice.
The people of Wexford and the members of An Garda
Siochana based in Wexford have been more than patient.
Their patience has been abused by Government.
The people now demand the urgent provision of this
vital facility for
the growing population of our town and county.
