ROSSLARE EUROPORT MUST HAVE IMPROVED ROAD ACCESS
Thursday, 26 April 2007
Labour TD Brendan Howlin has called on the National Roads Authority to
proceed urgently with the new access road to Rosslare Europort.
“Rosslare is one of County Wexford’s most important economic facilities.
It has the capacity to expand considerably in the immediate future, with
new routes and services.
“It is vital that the current inadequate road access to the port is
upgraded in accordance with published plans.
“I have had discussions with the National Roads Authority with a view to
proceeding with the Rosslare Harbour portion of the full plan as a stand
alone measure. I believe this part of the road plan is urgently put in
place.
There has been a huge growth in freight traffic through Irish ports in
recent years. Rosslare Europort is well placed to attract new business
to country Wexford, sustaining and growing employment throughout the
region.
“A vital part of the facilities required of a modern port is easy entry
and exit. The current access route to the port is clearly inadequate.
The needs of Rosslare Harbour cannot wait until the end of the current
National Development Plan. Action is required now.”
